    The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is offering an updated free Continuing Education (CE) course designed specifically for Pest Control Advisers (PCAs) and other industry professionals focused on invasive pest management.

    Titled Invasive Fruit Flies in California, this was a popular CE course last year. It has been updated for 2026 and provides an in-depth look at the rising pressure of invasive fruit flies (IFF) across the state and the critical role PCAs play in early detection and containment. This course is approved for 1.0 DPR CEUs.

    Participants will:

    • Understand the pest profiles of major IFF species affecting California
    • Learn the triggers that initiate quarantines in the state
    • Explore best practices for supporting growers with timely, science-based recommendations
    • Review the 2023-2026 IFF response strategies

  • California Plant & Soil Conference to Convene in Visalia this February

    The California Plant and Soil Conference will be held on February 3-4 at the Visalia Convention Center 303 E. Acequia, Visalia, CA 93291

    The conference is organized by the California Chapter of the American Society of Agronomy (CA ASA). Registration is now open through the conference website (https://na.eventscloud.com/plantandsoilconference).

    The annual conference provides an opportunity for students, professionals, and other attendees to increase their knowledge of current topics of agronomic importance in California. Many Certified Crop Advisers and Pest Control Advisers attend the conference to earn continuing education units that are important to their professional standing.

    This year’s conference will convene sessions covering the following topics:

    ·       The State of California Agriculture in 2026 and Beyond

    ·       Precision Ag

    ·       Integrated Pest Management

    ·       Robotics

    ·       Nutrient Management

    ·       Technology for Irrigation Management

    ·       Tools for Soil Health and Regenerative Ag

    ·       Frontiers in Genetic Engineering

    ·       Crop Diversification

    ·       Groundwater Quantity and Quality for Agriculture

    In addition to presentations on these topics, there will be an award ceremony to honor individuals who served the profession through their careers, a student poster competition, non-competitive professional posters, a student mentoring breakfast, and the CA ASA business meeting.     The conference is planned and presented by a team of volunteer professional agronomists from research institutions, cooperative extension, public agencies, and private companies.     The CA ASA organization was founded in April 1971 by a group of California agronomists who recognized the value in creating a forum to focus on California agriculture.
